Listing: Milestone near Goldthorn Terrace. Penn Road was
turnpiked in 1761 and milestones were erected shortly afterwards. This
example is stone with a cast iron plaque indicating 1 mile to Wolverhampton and
9 miles to Stourbridge. Retsored 2004.
Comment: Goldthorn Terrace stands well back from the Penn Road (the
A449) and the open space in front of it reaches down to the Penn Road. For
many years this milepost was lost in the tangled greenery and was forgotten.
It (and another further down the road) only came to light when road works were
being carried out.
