30 and 32 Goldthorn Hill

This pair of houses has known suffering in its time.
The one on the right has been put into good order but at considerable
cost to the appearance of the building. The one on the left is in
a somewhat neglected state. It still has the rather oddly placed
door on the first floor. One trusts that there was a balcony
perched on the porch.

This window seems to be original. Who on earth
designed that? And why?
Some of the nearby houses are equally, if not more
splendid. Numbers 36 to 42 are well worth a look, particularly the front
walls with their ornate coping.
