THE DIRECTORY OF
ARCHITECTURAL CERAMICS
IN WOLVERHAMPTON

16 Darlington Street

thanks to Western Trading Store Ltd. for permission to enter and photograph

This shops and offices building, from the late Victorian era, presents an impressively eclectic facade, with a great deal of stone ornamentation.  But the present point of interest is the entrance hallway:

which sports a mosaic floor and titling up to dado height.  This is continued as far as the first floor but no further.

This detail of the top of the wall shows the dark brown tile rail, two bands of narrow dark blue tiles, the moulded patterned tile and the moulded mottled tiles which fill up the rest of the design to skirting level.  The effect is sober rather than dramatic.

This detail  is of the mosaic floor
