CIVIC TRUST AWARDS IN WOLVERHAMPTON

Henwood Road, Compton

In 1979 the Civic Trust gave a Commendation to this "landscape improvement at an important road junction".

It is amazing that little more than 30 years later one is left wondering what this was all about.  The commendation refers to Compton and a road junction with Henwood Road.  That surely means that it is the junction above which is referred to - Henwood Road, Compton Road, Bridgnorth Road, the Holloway.  But what, if anything, now remains of this commendable scheme?  Perhaps it was the wall and landscaping to the right of the photo which took the assessor's eye.  Perhaps it has all changed beyond recognition.
